Power and Performance: The Intricacies of Joan of Arc's Gendered Identity

To our readers,

This semester, Suture celebrates not only its fifteenth issue, but a record number of submissions: our submission packet contained a higher word count than The Great Gatsby. We’re grateful to all the writers who sent us their work this semester and hope that you enjoy this issue.

A note from Alison, our graduating Editor-in-Chief: I’ll receive my diploma almost exactly one month after this issue’s publication. As such, the past few weeks have been busy; I feel that I’ve exhausted every eloquent phrase I could include here while finishing my thesis. (Its presentation is, as of today, six days away. The page count: 200+).

Suture is very important to me, however. If there’s one lesson to be learned from my time here, it’s the need for perseverance. My application to the board was rejected my freshman year; now I help run the journal. So for now, I’ll end with this: thank you to Suture for letting me continue my love-hate relationship with InDesign, exert what some have called a fixation on grammar rules while editing, and, most importantly, learn about a myriad of interesting topics from Chaucer to the economy.

Happy reading,

Alison and Julia
