FALL 2021
Dear Reader,

A return to post-pandemic normalcy is not yet upon us, but we are forging ahead, writing with a renewed strength following months and months of fatigue. In moments of distress, our excitement for academia can provide a moment of repose. With this in mind, we present Suture as a space not only for writing we produce for humanities class, but writing we construct and perfect as an end in of itself.
In this issue, we reimagine how forces from magic to geospatial technology to dating apps shape and reconstruct our world. We discover a world in which cultures of care address the failings of capitalism, a world in which GIS technology aids a feminist agenda, a world in which we subject ghosting someone on Tinder to a Geertzian thick description. We write our way not into a world of romantic whimsy, but a world in which authors resist romanticization of poor working-class mothers, a world in which the common man accesses rituals, a world in which greasers enact a vision of social change and text moves fluidly across time from Shakspere’s England to American prisons. A world in flux. A world that is healing. A word remaking itself again and again through language.
We are indebted to the standout writers who submitted this semester as well as our team of assistant editors.
We hope you enjoy.
